Haloween is coming, are you ready?

Talk about just about anything you like. Your projects you have on your work bench, TV shows you like, or miss, etc.

Haloween is coming, are you ready?

I may have never designed/built anything Cylon (though I'd like to), but I have built a nice replica pair of "Terminator" sunglasses.
I took a pair of sunglasses akin to the ones on the first Terminator movie and mounted two surface mount red L.E.D.s with "Krazy Glue(t.m.)" and wired them up to a small pushbutton switch and two 3v Lithium batteries.
that is all that is needed except one 1/4 watt resistor.
Each red L.E.D. drops 1.8V (typical of most red L.E.D.s) Running both of them in series, they drop 3.6 volts (Vf).
Using Ohm's Law ( V = I x R / I = V divided by R / R = V divided by I)
V = volts...I = current (in amps)... R = resistance in Ohms.
Starting with the 6 volts, (two 3V Lithiums in series) and a pair of L.E.D.s that drop 3.6 volts together and I want to run them around 18 milliiamps. 6V minus the 3.6V leaves 2.4 volts left for the resistor.
I chose a 150 Ohm resistor....So, 2.4 Volts divided by 150 Ohms (V divided by R gives circuit current as stated above) leaves .016 amps (or 16 milliamps) of current through the L.E.D.s making a nice Terminator look to an otherwise "normal" pair of sunglasses.
I mounted the Button (or coin) cell holders above the glasses frame on either side and used magnet wire (coil wrapping wire) to wire everything up.
I wish I could post pics, but as you can see is very easy to construct and very hidious looking.
By using such small L.E.D.s and wire, I can see through the glasses like the L.E.D.s and wire aren't even there, even when they are on, only a minimal amount of red light is seen in your own eyes since the L.E.D.'s reflectors project most of the light forward.
I bought the L.E.D.s from Electronics Goldmine (got 100 of them for about 4 bucks). You can look them up on the 'Net, they have a website.
When I first joined, Gold Cylon said he was looking forward to how I could contribute to others building Cylons since I am an Electronics Engineer. I havn't built anything Cylon yet, but this is something I have built that I wanted to share details about.
I scared my cousin so bad that he jumped about 3 feet in the air when he was coming back up out of the field from a fishing trip, and I hid behind some junk at the top of the hill by the gate that leads out.
When he got out of the truck to open the gate, I made an aweful screaming sound and ran towards him, the result was fantastic!!!!
I cant imagine what I would do if something with red glowing eyes came running at me in pitch black darkness.
Good luck building this and scaring the "Pogees" out of your friends...and.. have a Cylon Haloween!!!!

Sounds great! Just be sure to have some clean pants to give your "lucky" friends after the "BOO"

Anyone going to pass out candy in a full Cylon suit? THAT would be cool! Take photos whatever you do!

Along with Starbuck, wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween!

BOO!
