Always a fun one - Gold Cylon Raider

Post by 137th Gebirg » Fri Dec 18, 2009 1:19 pm

This is always a fun one to bring up and speculate about on a new board.

Following the release of the TOS Epic Series on DVD, all kinds of new things emerged that many of us never saw on non-remastered broadcasts. One of which was the startling presence of what appears to be gold colored Cylon Raiders in the various attacking squadrons throughout the series.

Many have speculated it was an unintentional coloring error during the compositing process. Others (such as myself) believe that it could have been a bit more deliberate, knowing that gold Cylon Commanders (like Vulpa) exist, why not lead gold Raiders? Here are a few screen caps that have made the rounds:

Here's another one that someone found one of many F*** Off "Caprica Lights" discussions:

My understanding about this it was just a color shift mistake, and not done on purpose, and just cost to much to go back and fix it.

A similar thread was featured here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=254

I also like the idea of the golden Cylon Raider being a squadron commander or something... I'd also like to know if this type of Raider where piloted by three Command Centurions then...

I bet this kind of Raider was also used by the Imperious Leader in "Living Legend", where he was flewn to the surface of Gamoray to dedicate the new Cylon base...

A ship with three crew - all commanders!? YIKES :) lol

I think that is a good idea, the Gold Raiders moving high-level Cylons... a limo of sorts??

Agree this would make a good "Squadron" or "Wing Leaders" ship. Possibly even a "Strike Leader" that is in charge of directing the whole attack on a target. A very interesting subject.

Agree with you on the crew - Possibly a Silver Pilot & Gunner & the Gold Commander in charge of the Strike Package. Kinda like was see in RAZOR.

AHHHH! I feel a new model coming on! LOL!

OK you "Experts" out there........

From the stills this ship appears to be a Mustard Yellow color (at least to me). Any comments on exactly what color it might be?

Would it actually be Gold Colored?

Well.... it is night time in the image, and the Raider is up in the sky where "odd" light stuff could occur - vs. - being on the ground and how we see/expect stuff to appear "down here" - in low light.

I would say if there was a "colored" Raider - besides the typical one, that it would make sense for it to be a Gold hue over a Mustard Yellow - BASED on the colors of the Cylon Centurions themselves. However, there isn't any real support for a colored Raider in the show's plot/stories. It is a special effect that was probably a "Friday, quitting time" error...

Sometime back Chris Pappas said that it was a computer edit mistake, and they just let it go over fixing it. The time problem the show always had edit errors like that just happened.

Interesting discussion. Just throwing in my non studied opinion, but I would side on the editing errors argument. We simply did not have the standard and level of excellence in effects shots that we do today.
