My Monogrm original boxed model

Post by GoldCylon » Thu Feb 11, 2010 5:19 pm

I can't find the topic now, but the other day someone posted a original Monogram Cylon Raider model listed on eBay that sold for about $385. I knew I had at least one, and well today I found 2 of them. I could tell with out even open one of them it had loose parts floating around in it, so I opened the 2nd box, and jack pot sealed inside. Here is a few photos of what I have.

Awesome! Just like mine ;)
But your box isn't a beat up... I'm going to build mine one day. After I learn a few things on the newer Revell one.

The black labels for the wings are a little bit odd...

It is odd! Note the box art has them too.

OK, for the record, the Raiders don't go for that kind of money - only the GALACTICA model brings those prices.

Here is the article you spoke of: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=838

For the model builders - most are going for the 30th Aniversary kits built by REVELL of the RAIDER & VIPER as they have the extra parts and facilities for LED lighting. Only the collectors are going after the 1978 versions like you have GC, then only if they still have the plastic on them.

As for the wing stripe decals - the ones in the original 1978 MONOGRAM kit did have the red pin-stripe on them. Not seen in the show that I can remember - just something the kit builder came up with.

Yeah, I got my Raider in a junk store... under $20. And I talked him down as it was missing two tiny parts. HA!

The stripes!
I remember building that as a kid and forgot all about that part of the decal. Thanks for the memories.

Well take a look here just adding to the story on the strips, well at least giving source of where they came from.

On an other note does the Raider on the left look like it has white Cylon symbol, and the one of the right has a green one? Maybe they are the Irish Cylons.

Both of the Raiders in that scan have "correct" markings with the black stripe "above" the Cylon logo... the Monogram decals are below the logo and have a red outline. Seems like they painted studio scale markings on a Monogram kit?

I think the logo color is just how the light is hitting it... seems green, with a glare?

Silly Cylons.
