Yes that looks about right, and I think they were tested at 9 volt bulbs years ago.

Hello everyone,

Hmm, with a slight mod, my micro-controller board can be made to use the bulbs.

Great work! Now I'm anxious!

Hey bucketheads! I have a suggestion for the LEDs and viewing angle. Luxeon LEDs now come in side lighting bulbs. We may be able to use those, or even the 3mm square LEDs. I'm going to start a helmet soon to experiment with...just have to find someone willing to part with a bucket kit...hint hint...

The Led's are very cool but I have seen the difference between the led versions and the bulb versions and the bulb motion seem to be a soomther looking scan? Not that any one outside a picky @$$ modeler community would notice (And I'm not sayin the led's arn't cool) I just wonder if anyone noticed the difference? and with all of the "Behind the scene" photos that I have seen here, does anyone have anything on the original scanners?

Scanner Compairison

Just a new guy question

Correct Big Al, the original bulbs have a natural fade in and out as power is given and taken away. LEDs are a harsh on or off as they loose power... the "fade" must be added back in with programming.

I didn't know you could program an LED to fade? I thought they were either on or off?

also how hard could it be to make a circuit to drive the bulbs?

I know that led's fire at a certain voltage and multi colored leds change color when different voltage is applied.

a bulb will simply be brighter or dimmer when the voltage is varied.

Also I'll bet they used the same bulbs in the cylon scanner as they did to light up the viper helmets.???

Yep, have to program the restriction of power to them as I understand... Zeta know all about this stuff, he's a whiz at it. The circuit is pretty complex one you add 32 bulbs into the mix - and then the physcial work of all them wires - eeek.

I think you are right - they probably did use the same type of bulbs for the Viper helmets - better to use what you have in the shop rather than re-invent the wheel as it were.

Looking at the video, the bulb scanner is spot on! the led scanner is off and I can easily notice the "on/off" sequence the led's make. Wonder if using a different capacitor will work to let the current out more slowly reducing the on/off effect.
I need to get me a helmet kit and try to come up with a good bulb system

GroupleaderZeta is working on a bulb system

but here is my version of the LED scanner

That's looking pretty good ....how about other lighting conditions? IE. Room lights on, Room lights off?, Daylight?

At this time my helmet is in several pieces, so new vids are not possible. perhaps someone who has a zeta controller mounted can do them.
I will be building a new helm soon, and I can take new vids of it.

I could try to take a short vid of it in the Sun. Everyone keep in mind I will have to wait for the Sun to actually rise in the sky.
I promise it won't take me two years.

However, it is really a pointless effort as it depends on what diffusion materials a builder chooses to put over the LEDs. That will change how the LEDs are seen in any light... and darkness too.

That 2 year comment GC made about the gallery....rusted your metal butt didn't it?...LOL :nah:

as far as the outside lighting demo I would be satisfide with a written description.....I trust your tech opinion and I know you know what your talking about.

One more thing ......Did they cut your sunlight funding in Kansas City?? :nah: How long do you have to wait for sunlight??

Sun comes up at 5:00 here and sets at 8:00 but that's Cali.
