This doesn't directly answer your question, but it will reveal deeper origins:
About 15 years ago I had a friend, Doug Burnett, who worked on the original Star Wars. He had boxes and boxes of Star Wars screen-used items and original production artwork, paperwork, blueprints, etc. and he asked me to go thru it with him and catalogue it on video (my video... ) and among the many things I saw was a print of a TIE fighter with (what we now know as) the Cylon Empire pentagon logo on the side of the cockpit. Other similar TIE prints had different markings on them, too, as if they were considering adding identification markings to the TIEs. Somewhere I still have that video and maybe I'll get a screencap if I can find it.

Do you still have the video, or scans of the images you took? I'd like to see the Tie Fighter with the Cylon logo, and the rest of the stuff really.

I do still have it. I even transferred it to DVD a few years ago. But the real issue is that I don't currently have the ability to screen-capture at the moment...

It was the exact same, double pentagon, in green logo?

I can't remember for sure if it was single or double, but when I saw it, it was obvious to me that it was a design later used for the Cylons. There were some Galactica items in the stuff too. It was clear that the same people were working on both projects...

Ok, the memory was a little fuzzy, but I was still in the ballpark! Not green and not double pentagons... I snapped pics right off the TV so you guys could see some of the stuff. I just ask that these images not be taken and used without permission/credit. Thanks.

OK so that last photo looks like the master mold to the Cylon ship that is behind the holster.

There were at least 4 different panels to the basestar there... my guess is that those might have been the master patterns that were molded to produce the rest...? I have footage of those too, but they go by quickly, not really clear enough to photo, and my commentary ID'd one of the pieces as an inner panel.

I know one of those panels in Germany, and one is in LA now.

Yea, all this stuff, minus a few things got sold off to Jim Latta (sp?) and the owners of Icons in the late 90's... I think Doug got some meager payment of like $5K. Those guys parceled it off and made a small fortune with it! Believe me, there were some true gems in there, and in general, alot of very unusually interesting stuff.

I wonder if there's some material of the Imperious Leader included as well...

I don't think there was anything of the imperious leader. Most of the stuff was Star Wars...
