Re: Reference material
Unlit it would still BE red, just so dark it would appear black. Like Darth Vader's "eyes" in Star Wars: A New Hope... they are actually tinted red - but appear black most of the time.

Re: Reference material
Hello everyone,
Where are the speakers in a screen used helmet for the eye sweep sound? For others not screen used, where did you put the speakers?
It was suggested that they be placed in the cheek area next to the mouth grill.
Thanks,

Re: Reference material
Screen used Cylons had no on-board functioning sound for the eye or voice... it was all done with post production - sound effects.
The location, size, power of your speaker(s) will just all depend on what you want. BIG LOUD SOUND you can hear across a crowded room, or just something more "human-ish" like a speaking voice volume. So if you want massive sound with big ol' speakers, the helmet is out...
I think the chest would be ideal - in the front so the voice/eye projection is correct. And it could be powerful. The back pack could hold more, but then the sound is behind you and you don't want TOO much weight going on either. It's all give and take I guess.
For a helmet only - just put it where it fits/comfortable if it will be worn.

Hello everyone,
nashslash, can you post a couple pics? I was thinking of doing a speaker in the front of the neck piece, the area just above the chest. How big is your amp, 1 watt?

-Top pic - a promo photo of a "REAL" Cylon... so its quality isn't the hottest... but you can see some holes there
-Second pic a crazy awesome fan made Cylon
-Third pic another crazy awesome fan made Cylon
-Fourth and last - The Screen used Vulpa helmet - WITH LATER MODS to make the salt n pepper holes HUGE AND TOO MANY - I'm posting this one as a *DO NOT DO* this example

Now, looking them over I notice one thing about the "real" vs. the two fan ones.
The dot pattern of the fans has aligned holes and the REAL one is staggered. Best way I could think to explain it was make this graphic:

ok for the helmet. If you are going to troop in your costume i would recommend that you drill holes into your lid. Your going to need as much help as you can with vision. Looking at fan builds or the real deal so to speak i don

Re: Reference material
That last video posted with the Vader shoulder armor would look really cool if you did a black chromed helmet and the red eye scanner.

Hello everyone,
I have found that the helmet is front heavy has anyone figured out how to fix it? I have fixed the problem before by adding weights to the back of the helmet.

Didn't you just answer your own question?
If possible locate the light circuit boar towards the back.

Re: Reference material
I tried that didn't help much, the heaviest part seems to be the cast visor part.

Re: Reference material
The scanner inset weighs 3.4 oz (C.O.R.A. kit). I weighed mine still uninstalled on a scale for food that goes in .1 oz increments for your Cylon building pleasure.
Maybe install a counter weight in the back that weighs more to tip it backwards. An exact 3.4 counter balance won't be enough, the scanner and wires all add to the front as well. And if you are going to add a speaker and fans, might be better to have padding that just holds it tight from the upper sides??

Re: Reference material
Hello everyone,
Back to square one, adding counter weight did not help, I added around 10 ounces to the back. All it did was make the helmet heavier.
The focal point seems to be on top of my head, maybe I have a weird shaped head, when I pull in the bottom back towards the neck, the front comes up. I tested a string, connected it to the back of the helmet and ran it across under my nose and seemed to work.
On the screen used was the back of the helmet attach to th hoodie?

Re: Reference material
Hello everyone,
The parts for my armour project is coming along. I now have questions on the undershirt.
Where is the top of the ribs in the neck supposed to be, under the nose, at chin???
The vinyl patches on the arms, do the go all the way around the arm or 2/3 around??
thanks
