Re: Geeky photo of the day
Any plans on updating the galleries soon?
I've spotted some photos which aren't present on the site yet...
By the way, do you have a higher-resoluted version of this:

This gallery is out on my hands. I don't like this gallery at all, and Cylon-Knight said he is reworking it. Not sure what is going on, but he has the ball on this project closing on to 2 years now.Red Eye wrote:Any plans on updating the galleries soon?

Since facebook renames the file name, and I am not sure the file location on the PC it isn't easy to find and compare the file link over the real file. Bottom line Unknown.

I don't know who dreamed up 2 years on this project. I have been a member of BYC.net for just 2 years and one month... I didn't appear as an admin and trash the gallery the day I joined - OR a month later.
Aside: Anyone remember? When I did become an admin I rebuilt the forum totally. From a totally messed up install re-coded by someone else with bubblegum and scotch tape "fixes" that left the site unable to accept registrations giving security warnings with every cick. I remade it cosmeticlly identical (and NOW improved) site - THAT ACTUALLY WORKED!
I downloaded all the files the former gallery contained on Sunday, March 06, 2011, 11:07:22 PM - NOT two years ago. I have it, the master copy untouched and a duplicate that I am sorting.
I took this on myself, in my free time, to try and improve the gallery and this site for everyone to enjoy. There is no time frame unless someone wants to pay me and I can quit my job forever. I hate the current Gallery software as well, if someone wants to buy some for the site to use then please do. Or if you know of a better freeware gallery that can support around 2 gigs of data - images and videos, then let me know. Until then we must all suffer with the freeware that it is. BYC.net's host is already incapable of supporting the newest version of the software. So we are suck with dated freeware on top of it sucking.
Dale you have a copy of the gallery files as well on my thumb drive I mailed you. If you have a lot of free time, you also have a log into the gallery and can post up files at any time.
I am working on sorting 1.56 GB of data, 8,316 files in 157 folders THAT ARE A TOTAL MESS. No logical names. No orginazation. MULTIPLE copies of the same images in different folders, or the same folders with or without identical names. And remember I am doing this in my free time. I worked 17 hours of overtime at my job last week... as you can see I didn't have time to sort Comic book covers from Cylon Boots. (IN FACT: I should be working right now, but I put my work laptop on the floor to type this up on my personal machine. I have much more to do yet tonight for work after a LONG day where I skipped lunch to try and just stay behind less. I am just one person and *shock* can not do the work of six by myself in just 8 hours.)
Short of putting all the images into a massive unorganized single gallery that no one would EVER want to use, I don't know what else to do but keep working on it when I can. Such a gallery would be useless as you'd have to just go page by page for 8,000 images. And searches would be poinless as the file names are wothless.... would you think to search for 014w if you really wanted a Galactica Studio Model photo? I am renaming files after grouping them how they should be.
Many images I've altered to adjust poor color balance, etc. as I sort them out to try and improve things for everyone.
Finally many of the images are not Battlestar Galactica related and need grouped by their topic(s). Or, they just plain do not belong in the gallery and are being deleted.
Do we want a gallery to be proud of - that WILL take time? Or do we want to be "that site" with something that was easy, quick but awkard to use and dumb?
Now, I am done with my rant. Someone please post another "Geeky photo of the day."
