....the shine or the color?

Talking about the undersuit. I can find fabric very close to the color...but it doesnt have that sheen/shine to it. I can also find fabric that has the sheen, but is pretty much a charcoal grey. Now i will contunue to look for the correct combo of sheen and color, but just wondering what would be more objectionable to the Cylon purists out there. :cylon:

Going with black is much easier to find the material. The plum isn't really hard to find in the correct color, but the correct thickness. If you want a purist exacting 1:1 you need to have the low sheen. The armor has enough of that luster already.

heh good point! Hmm..ya know i didnt even think of the thickness! ...i may just go with the charcoal grey. thats what it "looks like" most of the time on the show anyways. I will keep looking for the "correct" fabric though. if i find it after i make my undersuit.....i guess ill have to make another one LOL!

The fabric i can find is just a cotton lycra, so it doesnt have ANY sheen at all. I can get that and dye it easily to a very close color.

The other thing im tryin to do is figure out an on the fly voice changer. I know this is like a big thing that it seems cant be found. The closest is that hyperdyne vortex2 which is like 400 bucks and still not quite there. Its a shame cuz the Vader they do is excellent. Its too bad you cant put more than one "change" on a board. You have to pick one. If i could have Vader and the Cylon on one board, that might make it worth it to me. But alas, i cant do that...and even if they would do it, im sure it would boost the price to like 800 bucks lol.

WOW you would have to do a LOT of talking. That's much $$$ even for the part they do offer. It better do my taxes too for that much money.

What people in the prop/costume community keep finding out is that Hyperdyne is WAY overpriced. Not that I am knocking his product only that he realizes that most of us can't figure the electronics out. Once somebody else does we find out that it's only a few bucks of hardware. I'm going to be working with a few people to try and figure out lighting/ voice options for us. If you look at a few of the 'scanner' threads you will see that the project is quite involved. I have no doubt that someday a very cheap alternative will present itself... similar to all the Ghostbuster guys getting the PKE meter from Matel and then selling thier overpriced Hyperdyne kits.

As far as the undersuit goes the color really is the most important. The weight is more a matter of being able to work with as light weight lycra/cotton is very difficult to do the work on rather than the thick stuff which behaves beter in a sewing machine. Bottom line is if you get the suit to fit right then whatever material you choose should look pretty good.

I agree bro. Those chips n such cant be THAT expensive. Like you said they know that most people cant make these things themselves, so they hike the price and some people will pay it cuz they cant find another alternative. Their Vader is very good, and unfortunately nothing comes close. YET

Hm....yea, i guess ill see what i find.

From a rookie's perspective- I think the purple looks great if you can get all the ribbing and patches placed just right, but if you don't nail it perfectly, the black looks better- kind of an all-or-nothing approach to the undersuit.

I have been thinking of a black under suit with black chrome armor. The eye would look so awesome and might be a bit more camera friendly.
