Those incredible costumes

This is coming from someone who has absolutely no interest in, or even understanding of, the whole "cosplay" phenomenon, but... those BSG-TOS costumes were true works of art! The Colonial uniforms with their brown/beige and blue variations were as iconic as the original Star Trek tunics; every dress designed for a female character was breathtaking; even the extras were wearing extragalactic yet totally believable stuff.
I never saw a costume in the series that looked tacky, cheesy, or half-baked-- unless you count the silver Lunar Seven suits, which I assume were intentionally designed as an homage to the cheesy futuristic silver getups of yore. Jean-Pierre Dorleac deserves to stand alongside Glen Larson, Ralph McQuarrie, and Stu Phillips as one of the true geniuses behind the show.

Costumes of Galactica, I salute you.

Well put, Grog. Even the I.L. Series (Lucifer, Specter), Boxey, etc. had wonderful costumes. They were all just enough out of our world, but could have belonged. Long lost tribe of Man and everything ya know.

Yes, I agree completely.
The awesome costume creations surely helped Classic BSG to set the iconic look, still highly recognizable after over three decades!

On the other hand, I hadn't realized Dorleac was such a thief:

I was wondering when that link was going to come up. He also has a few alter egos that he uses pretending to be his assistant. He has skated by in life as a designer on the back of others. :frak:

He pretends to be his own assistant? What's that for; to draw a double salary?

I think I've identified what Dorleac was referring to as "the celery dress." It was the dress that Cassiopeia wore on Carillon. I could never figure it out because we never really saw it below the waist. What a waste.
Incidentally, I think some of the posts earlier in this thread got truncated during the forum redesign.

The problems seem to arise from the accented "e" as far as I can tell.

Very nice photo! Thanks for sharing.
Here's Dorléac's original sketch for the costume:

Maybe those two images could be paired up in the archives! Interesting to see the changes in the finished product alongside the idea. Never saw the sketch clearly before, with Laurette's name and all.
