New cylon LED eye circuit with comet tail - first post

Sorry this is my first post. I just joined here and wanted to show off what I just finished. It's literally been years in the making.
Basically it is an LED-based eye sweep circuit that emulates the original bulbs. You can program the sweep speed and "decay rate" of the LEDs to match different bulbs. This gives a longer or shorter comet tail effect seen in bulbs. You can also program the "on time" of the LEDs to also emulate a bulb since they do not come on instantaneously.
Here is a video:

I may offer kits of these if there is interest. I figured people here could appreciate the amount of work to make this look correct.
Thanks for looking

Interesting. I really like what you've done. Do you have an idea how much you will price the kit?
A unique feature to add to the kit would be the eye scanner sound output. One less thing to build.

Looks good but is it me or does the tail swish up and down. If so why?

I am thinking about the kit being under $99. I could add sound, but my voice changer already has input for the eye warble. I made this version to fit up in the mohawk for wearable helmets. Sound is doable if there is interest.
The tail goes slightly up and down since I just had to tack on LEDs directly to the board. They are not in a line like they should be, as this was the first test to just see how it looked.
Next test is to put the LEDs in the visor piece. With the promising initial results, I think it will look good.

Welcome hyperdyne, and WOW!
Keep working on that kit, you'll make a lot of Cylons here happy.
Watching for the helmet test!

Wow. Looks very interesting. I would be interested, especially if the warbel sound could be built in...

Get this going and I may use it to replace the dead unit in my Kropserkel helmet.

depending on the helmet type, there is a gap directly 'above' the red eye which you can see out of.
Or there are small holes drilled in the chrome directly above the eye, as you can see on the By Your Command picture at the top of this thread on the right.
Either way, vision isn't great by any affordable means, but it's enough.

1989 Cylon Centurion? You mean 1978, right? (I hope!) heehee
MackUK is right. Slits or salt-and-pepper holes are the original ways to see. Both are illustrated here, be sure to check out this article that Red Eye and I put together for builders:
http://cylon-knight.com/helmet.htm
Those are the "original" ways... but there are other ways... I actually do see out between the LEDs in my helmet. There is a tiny gap between each LED and I can see between them as it is so close to my own eyes. Think about Star Trek the Next Generation's Geordi La Forge and his visor. Same deal. A few others here are working on using new technology to improve the vision system. I hope to also try tele-presence goggles for drones and such. Small camera in the helmet, sends info to tiny view screens inside like glasses. You'd be able to see EVERYTHING (what a dream!)... because MackUK was also right in that vision is
POOR out of the helmet - if done 1978 accurate.

I want to see how they would fit the curve vs a straight line. Really need to see this in. A finished helmet. I am definitely interested. GC1
