MESH SKIRT FOUND

I've been reading up old posts on here regarding the metal mesh skirts and how damn expensive they are. Trawled the internet and came across this site:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/208724

Decided that for the price, I may as well place an order. The piece is one square metre, so roughly 39.5 inches square. More than enough for the cylon skirt.

I bought the 3mm aluminium mesh in silver. They don't have it in gunmetal, so I may spray it the proper colour when I receive it. Price is US$29.99 which is really cheap, but here's the kicker.....postage to Down Under is US$33.68. Total US$63.67. Still cheaper than the other places.

Will let you guys know when I get it and post some pics.

Cheers

Well, the mesh arrived the other day. I opened it up and was impressed with it. I thought the mesh pieces looked a bit small, so I pulled out a ruler and measured them. Yep, they sent me 2mm instead of 3mm. Damn....So now I'm gunna send them an email and hopefully they'll rectify the problem. Will keep everyone posted.

Well, I did a search on this forum and came across the "Official Skirting Thread" which states that 2mm is indeed screen accurate. But I also seem to remember reading somewhere that 3mm is screen accurate and also I have read 4mm?? Can someone please verify this? Which is the correct size?? Hopefully it's 2mm.....well, 'coz that's what I was sent.

2mm sounds correct from what I recall. Sorry I don't have a measuring tool for millimeter

Well they have gold and "Coffee" color. I will go with the coffee, but maybe I should get silver too, before this disappears. Really great find. I think 2mm is accurate, BTW. I hope they send me 2 mm too. Site sats 3mm. :bsglol:

BTW, it's $63 to America, too. I wish they offered alternate shipping choices. I really don't need a 7 day ship from China. it can take 3 weeks, as far as I'm concerned.

Just ordered mine today… "coffee". I was just thinking, if the color is way off… instead of paint, why couldn't I send it in to the plater's along with my vacuformed armor so it all matches?

Frankly, I think it's perfect. I also received the 2 mm rather than 3 mm and am happy about that. As far as I can tell, it is exactly like the real stuff. It basically really is metal chain-mail with little plates. Really cool stuff. I got "coffee" flavor. :bsglol: I figured coffee was closer to copper than gold. I think I was right. While not as bright as a penny, it is definitely not gold. To copper, it's sort-of like what pewter is to silver.

If you are happy with it that is what counts. Congrats on your newest acquisition.

Yes, I'm pretty happy with it. I bet it would take plating ok. I wonder if it's possible to send in with the other parts?

Question: How do I "cut" this to the proper dimensions? I doubt scissors would be the thing to use. Tin snips? Might ruin it. Any suggestions?

I am sure some heavy duty scissors would work fine to cut the connecting wire or a cheap one time use throw away pair. It isn't that difficult to cut.
