Ok everybody the other day I had a discussion with a friend of mine. He’s a huge Star Wars fan he thinks the1977 X wing pilot helmet is cooler than the 1978 viper pilot helmet? I told him he was crazy what does everybody think about that

Neither are believable in context of the job they're supposed to do which is to be pressurised for flying in space but that aside, the Viper pilot helmet wins hands down because it at least pays lip service to covering the entire head.

What could be cooler than the full-on King Tut look?

The Colonial helmet does have the full face cover... and lights suggesting some sort of force-field, maybe.
And the Viper helmet is actually uniform (less the crest emblem).

X-Wing seems to need the add on mouth cover ala Top Gun to be of any air assist.
It varies GREATLY, but that does make sense as different military branches, units, etc. have different markings and such.

Picking is hard! Both have good pros and wacky cons. I'll just say I lean toward the Viper, but I still need those Rebel scum helmets too.

Why pick when you can have both? However while the Star Wars helmet more closely resembles a pilots helmet (because that’s what is was molded off a Vietnam era helmet)I would have to say the king Tut factor can not be denied and thereby I conclude that the viper pilot helmet wins hands down. GC1.
