Jean-Pierre Dorleac on the Philippe Druillet controversy

Many of us have heard of the allegation that Jean-Pierre Dorleac stole the Colonial warrior costume design from a "Lone Sloane" comic story by Philippe Druillet in a French magazine called "Metal Hurlant." In an Inter-Fleet Broadcasting podcast interview three days ago, Dorleac addressed that controversy by saying that it was one of
his own designs that he originally sold to the French comic book, and a few years later he reworked it into the Colonial uniform after showing his original sketch to Glen Larson. He said he never saw the finished comic at the time, just sold his design and received a check for it.
I just wanted to put that out there for the record, so nobody need go around accusing Dorleac of plagiarism without hearing his side of the story.

Metal Hurlant was a magazine (literally Screaming Metal) that started publication from 1975. It was what became Heavy Metal in the USA from 1977 and published many, many comic book stories. Are you sure the Druillet story was actually called "Metal Hurlant".

Clarification... Metal Hurlant was the magazine in which the Druillet story appeared.

And JPD was French so may well have been aware of it. Do we know when he came to the USA?

Says here he came to America in 1968. Also says his parents were Americans living in France.

(I don't know what the "1963-" represents, except maybe years active. It's too recent to be his birth year.)
