I was talking with Dale about the pictures we saw of a Cylon with the chest emblems that never seemed to make it on screen. I made a few screen captures of when the Cylon is speaking with the "Ovian"? creature. I think the images speak for themselves...
Time frame is 1hour 55minutes

I'm planning to make these rank insignias for my Centurion as well.
I've collected various photos from it where you can see it very clearly.
Will post them soon if you like to see them...

Oh yes, post the images. That would be great!
Perhaps the insignia could be explained away as that Centurion has additional communication programs, to understand the language of the Ovians? And the insignia represents that. That's just me thinking out loud - I don't know how the writers would explain the production goof.
Great find Hand-Schaub! Thanks for posting the images.

I have no idea where it is at in the photo gallery, but I have posted a production publicity photo of the Cylon with the insignia. It isn't a full 8x10 but you can see the detail in the b/w a bit clearer than the screen caps.

Here's the image I knew about. The point was that it was unclear whether the emblems made the final cut of the movie... which they did.

Very nice photos!
It would seem that Centurion does have a "rank" above others... talking with the Imperious Leader, and dealing with the Ovians - both key tasks for the Cylon cause to get that pesky Galactica!

Good thinking, Cylon-Knight.
I've also found another very plausible explanation for the two rank insignias originally posted by spcglider:
"I always attributed that to a long out-moded form of rank identification in the Cylon Empire. Its always been my thought that the centurions you see with those markings are some of the oldest, sturdiest models that survived from the outset of the 1000 yahren war. Then they switched to gold and copper color to denote rank."
In real life, I think it was an early try-out how a higher-ranked Centurion would look like, before the concept of the copper and golden command Centurions where developed.
By the way: Did you notice that the insignias are also present on the vintage Mattel Cylon Centurion and Cylon Commander action figures:

Very cool Pics! Thanks.
I think all the rank explanations are believable too. But perhaps the earlier Cylon were modeled after that intergalactic star.... MR. T! I mean with all the neck hardware and a Mohawk...

Yes, it is probably something that a second season would have explored. Too bad the network gave Classic BSG the axe
But, in the shows more towards the end they had cut back on Cylons. I guess they were too costly to keep blowing up week after week. They may have done more with the Imperious Leader and I.L. Series Cylons in season two - they didn't get blown up....
