COLONIAL WARSHIP IDENTIFICATION CHARTS

(Click on icon for full size picture)
FLEET HEAVY CAPITAL UNITS
FLEET BATTLELINE AND STRIKE UNITS
FLEET CRUISER AND ESCORT UNITS
NOTES:
1. Keep in mind - this chart represents the ship classes of the Colonial Fleet over the era of the 1000 YAHREN WAR.
2. The above reason is why many of the newer types of ship types like the GUNSTARS & STRIKE CRUISERS are almost as large as some of the older BATTLESTARS.
3. Only a couple of the great WARSTARS were built but all had been destroyed in the war by the time of the of the Cylon Attack destroying the 12 Home Colonies.

Having done the charts on the CYLON Warships I thought I would do a set for the COLONIALS as well. It is the same scale as the CYLON chart so you can see what makes up the Fleet.
I am still working on the SUPPORT UNITS chart, I will get it up as soon as I am finished.

Now are these your designs? That is a lot of different type of ships, I guess mostly support for Battlestars, and other type of war ships.

Actually most of the designs are ones that fans made up and had been on the net for various things such as RPG's & wargamming. The Victory Class Battlestar came from a pretty well known RPG - BATTLESTAR EXCALIBUR. I am also pretty sure the Columbia Class Battlestar and the Helios Class Warstar were actually one of 137th Gebirg's original schematics. Lots of the designs are conversions of his original work I suspect. Someone gathered them all up and worked out the sizes for them for a series of wargame sheets. That is where I got them from and why I put "COMPILED BY" not "BY" TINMAN on the charts I worked up. All I did (for the most part) was scale them and sort them where they would fit on the page.
WITH THAT SAID.... actually some of the designs are "Conversions" I made. A couple of the Battlestar Designs I came up with or slightly altered others as in the BSG Canon - all the Battlestars were built by different Colonies so I figured there would be differences in them. Makes thm more interesting. I did make up some of the designs - the Phoenix Class Strike Cruiser, Pioneer Class Patrol Cruiser, Preserver Class Corvette and the Medusa Class Seigstar. I converted one design to come up with the Javelin Class Strike Cruiser to match a pic I found on the Colonial Fleets site.
Another thing I came up with was the Valkyrie Class Battlestar & the Liberator Class Strikestar. I converted this design as sometimes is done with real warships. The Valkyrie Class Battlestar being one of the oldest in the fleet and limited by capacity, speed and ageing machinery and with all the newer Classes of BS's coming into the Fleet some of them were taken in hand - were completely overhauled, had their flight pods reduced in size and large caliber anti-ship weapons fitted. Still retaining their BS armor & with new systems and engines this would make them extremely effective Strikestars.
Gold Cylon, as I am sure you know while in a real Fleet all the big Capital Ships get all the press - most couldn't do their jobs very well without the other 90% of the ships in the Fleet - both Escort and Support ships. That is kinda what I was trying to portray in putting these charts together. I haven't even begun to get to all the Troopstars and Support ships that keep the Fleet rolling or able to put boots on enemy turff. Hope to have a good size set of charts by the time I am through.
OK, that about explains it, Sorry, didn't mean to write a Novel. LOL!

Another interesting story I was going to tell concerns the ATLANTIS CLASS WARSTAR. In an article I read on the net this is the Battlestar that took the 13th Tribe to Earth before the First Cylon War and was later discovered by Commander Cain and the PEGASUS when he found Earth. You can read the whole thing here:
http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Battlestar_Atlantis
Anyway, in the story once they got to Earth they sunk the Battlestar in one of the oceans in case it was ever needed again, but it was eventually forgot about untill raised by the Colonials that found Earth again. I thought it was kinda cool and maybe that is how the name "Atlantis" got into the language of the ancient Earthmen from describing what they thought was a "City" that sank beneath the sea. I used the biggest ship design I had because I wanted it to be "City Sized" in nature to match the name.
<S>!
