I don't know if anybody else has heard or read something about the Cylon voice control helmet aboutt to be released by Mattel in 1979.

Well, at least I have seen it for the first time while looking at this current eBay-auction for this vintage 1979 Mattel concept catalog:

The helmet itself looks very accurate and it's my guess they've used the original molds of a screen-used helmet for making it. It would be interesting to know if there were plans of installing a electronic eye scanner instead of just gluing that odd looking red dot on the visor.

Nevertheless, here's a picture of it again in its full glory:



As you can see, they did had some cool concept ideas at Mattel back in those days, but sadly, most of them were cancelled due to too high production costs (like the awesome electronic Galactica Command Ship)...

Would be neat if it showed up like the Canada released only toy Landrams. I wonder where the model for the catalog went? The electronic galactica was another toy I would have like to have seen in the day. Im not talking about the viper launch station but an electronic Galactica

I wonder what happened to the prototype of the helmet?

I looked up the helmet after the first post (how I found the two vids).
I didn't find anything about it... my GUESS is that it probably when home with some Mattel employee and has either been trashed for decades now, or is in a box in some basement somewhere - owners have forgotten or are oblivious to what they have.

Well the prototype Mattel Galactica came out of the wood works about 4-5 years ago. I bet the same will happen someday if the helmet is still alive.

I have one lead that is a solid lead in tracking this down so if it out there and this guy has any insight on it at all he will get me in contact with the person that might have had it.
