I'm not EXACTLY sure about the original slot - GoldCylon may have better access to verify to-a-T what the real measurement is. Basically anything that will let the LEDs/Bulbs only show is probably close enough.

Oh, you may PM CORA too - he may know of/have the original specs.

Can you tuck a piece of paper on top of the slot, make some marks on the paper then measure that.
