Hey guys.....

My availble time and motivation has kept me from this for a while but getting bits done here and there. I got the second pass of weathering finished now. I'm really liking the overall look of this now and need to touch up some details here and there with a 3rd pass.

Thanks for the comments and thanks for looking.

Wow! It REALLY looks impressive! :wtf:

Can't wait to see it with finished weathering...

Keep up the brilliant work!

:loveit: :loveit: :loveit:
LOVE IT! (and that poster in the background ;))

Say, where are the main lasers? Are you just working on the paint/details under them... and they done and to be put on later?
Or is your Raider a ship of peace and love?  haha

Thanks guys. Yeah, the guns are going on last. They're in the way for weathering. No peace and love for cylons... that's for sissies.

I'm enjoying the weathering. It's a slow process and really easy to mess it up. I've had a few scrubbing sessions trying to lighten up some areas that went on too dark. Taking a break for a while between passes helps actually so I can get a fresh look at it each time I start.

The last I've heard is that Mike has no plans to re-issue the kit. I know it's frustrating. Your best bet is to post that your are intested in buying a kit from someone else who has one they haven't started yet. Do this in the marketplace sections on RI, RPF, SSM, StarshipModeler, etc and update monthly. Most people who have a kit are bound to see your post.

If that doesn't work - there's always scratch building..... :ugh: I think the available parts maps are pretty complete.

No worries. When I got back into modeling and discovered the world of studio scale models it was the version 1 of the raider that inspired me the most. Of course I missed out on gettimg that one and had to wait a long while for the second version to come out. When I saw Mike's post about it being released I was all over it like (to stay in context) like a cylon raider on nugget's tail. (ok, that doesn't sound as funny as I thought it would). Anyway, these things come in waves. I think it will be released again eventually when there's enough demand out there.

I love the build and the weathering but what I am most looking forward to is a few pictures in the dark - you know like it was shot for the show. As a hobby we get so into the details that we forget how cool things are in the environment that they were meant for - space!

I'm looking forward to that too. I did that with my Colonial One model when it was done and it looks far better with back lighting similar to how it looked on the show. I was surprised how much it changed and how much bigger it looked in the photos with lights set up. All the little details blend together and some of them disappear but the overall effect is fantastic. I'll probably do some composites to duplicate some of the signature images of this from the show.
