*Official* Rifle Thread

Post by The Cylon Empire » Wed Mar 23, 2011 10:44 pm

The 1978 Cylon Centurion has a no-nonsense rifle to *ZAP* Colonials with.

Screen accurate details:
  • Constructed of vac formed plastic
  • Side panels are custom built details - made from bits of off-the-shelf model kits. (The same way the Galatica filming model was detailed.)
  • Has electrical tap around the muzzle (yes, electrical tape)
  • Hero rifle has lights, but no sound. Sound was added in post production to the show's soundtrack (and of course it didn't really shoot lasers....OR DID IT!?)
  • Stunt rifles have no lights
Low cost alternatives:
  • There are a few excellent options for prop rifle from various members in good standing of the Cylon Empire. They can be contacted via PM in the ByYourCommand.net forum
Notes:
  • Hero prop - High detail for close ups and have working options (lights/sounds/movements/etc.).
  • Stunt prop - Low detail for background use. Physically resemble hero props, but typically a solid or hollow low quality copy. No working options (lights/sounds/movements/etc.).

Hello fellow cylons,
Due to me having little time to work on many items. I decided to post the circuit I designed for the rifle light sequencer for those that want to make one. Adjust VR2 for speed, VR1 is for the reset.

questions, I will do my best to answer.

That's really cool, unfortunately for me it looks like the way to grandmas house. Is that in Greek? Lol thanks! Maybe it's time for me to learn how to read schematics.

I guess my grandma was Greek, and I never knew it...LoL....I read it like a road map. Love it. Thanks. Can it handle the super bright white LED's?

possible, I have never tried them. The maximum current draw I have used was 40 mA on each output. The chips are inexpensive to test if damaged you out about $.40. For me I would use 2N3904 NPN transistors between chip output and LEDs to be on the safe side, they can handle 500mA. Don't forget at lease a 1 Ohm bios resistor between base of transistor and chip output!
