Has any one ever looked into Chrome Monokote for model airplanes? It is about $15 for a roll and has heat activated adhesive on one side. I was thinking I might try to attach it to a flat sheet of plastic before vacuum forming a part to see if it would work, but I was wondering if anyone here has already tried that?

Thermoformable, too? That means you can straight up vacform it right over your armor parts at the same time as you pull them, C.O.R.A. !!!! AWESOME !!!!

Formable chromed finish plastic has been out a long time, but the heat to get it to form is so high most vac table can't get the plastic hot enough to get a good clean crisp pull.

I bought chrome plastic to vacuform a few years back and one issue I had was the mirror finished reflexes the heat back. The back side was black so I tried to heat that side and flip it didn

We use the chrome Monokote from time to time and it works great on wood....I don't know how it would work on styrene...the adhesive activation heat might be a problem. Monokote activates at 215 to 240 degrees. On a wood surface you have to fill the wood and cote with butyrate to avoid sagging ...you can apply it straight on the wood (no treatment) and it looks great ....until it sets in sunlight for a short time then it sags and pulls away from the wood.....re-heating with a heat gun will shrink it back up but it will sag again.

There are other coverings with lower temps...econokote 190-210

When guys started to fly plastic and foam planes, they had some trouble with the monokote...melting the plane before the cover would activate.
