Yes, Happy Birthday. now go forth and "exterminate" the life form known as man.
If "they" say it can't be done, it just means "they" cant do it.

Happy Day, Big Al!
I saw, and started your B-Day thread at GBBS.com last night around midnight my time... but you didn't have your birthday in your profile here. I wasn't sure if you wanted the word out so I didn't start a thread... but I guess you are okay with it!
Best wishes!

My Personal Star Wars History (How many ways have you seen it?)
so that first one tonight was a little long so I'm gonna watch some more tomorrow but it got me thinking about how many different ways I'v seen Star Wars.
The first time I seen Star Wars a New Hope was at The Mann's Chineese Theater in Hollywood California around my 13th Birth day. so a few months after the premier. and this is why.............
Here are some photos of the premier day May 25 1977

Visitor pic of the footprints notice harrison ford's to the right.

The place was packed that day and was street to street people for months! no kidding!
All of the main cast was there for the premier and the traditional casting their foot prints in cement,
Anthony Danials, Kenny Baker were in full costume

My friends and I completly were hooked and couldn't get enough!
so about that time they relesed a Super 8 mm reel for you to watch at home because before VCR's, Video Cameras and camcorders, there was Super 8!
My dad had a Bell and Howell super 8 Movie projector and a movie screen so I talked him into getting the Star Wars reel that they sold at K mart.
(K Mart sold alot of photo and home movie equipment in those days).
Dad's Projector circa 1960's

The Film was the 13 min 200' Black and white silent version
WTF......I KNOW HUH?

Later I got the color version but it was still silent..you could not tell the difference between them as the box photo was the same just a little 1 inch sticker that had the word color printed on it and the reel was blue instead of red.
My Friend Ricky lived across the steet from us an they had a elongated enclosed patio that we were allowed to convert into a make shift theater and show my movie reel to all the kids on the block. (About 20 in all)...Fun Stuff..and yes we charged them .50 cents addmission ...quarters were king in the seventies!! Vending machines and video games all needed quarters! Be sides we also got enough kids to come we so we charged .50 cents for popcorn and .50 cents for sodas! That was a $1.50 per kid! I had a LP audio narrated story told version with alot of spoken sound track and then sync up some of the dialog to the 8mm reel so it was kinda cool!.
So check this out.......After The Original Release and the super 8 fun...we heard about bootleg copies being sold in the valley on the news, and my dad was pretty well conected in the San Fernando Valley at that time so,....He knew a guy who got us a VHS Bootleg of SW and we watched it on a RCA Selectavision VCR in dads living room.

I was limited to 2 friends I could share that secret with and friends that I could trust to keep their mouths shut and we watched that tape must have been well over 200 times.
There was no civilian Film to Video transfer machines available at the time as the home VCR was also brand new to the public so I think it was a video camera pointed at a theater screen (Maybe a theater employee after hours) video quality is so so and the fact that my friends and I watched it 200 times, although the audio is pretty good not like a video cam mic. so I suspect some technical know how involved to get the best quality one could get without access to a editing lab or fancy transfer equipment.
My point is this....I still have that copy after all these years in my storage in some box with 100's of other tapes I got over the years.....That copy is an ORIGINAL THEATRICAL REALESE because it was taped at a theater in 1977 befor the change (Unchanged)
20 years after we got the bootleg, Lucas released the trilogy in vhs format and I still have that set but I think that one was altered with new scenes.

I have seen multiple web sites where some fans are furrious about Lucas's changes to the originals and are patitioning him about his refusal to let any one have or see the originals...he even petitioned the Library Of Congress to change the Historical Copy that is archived to the altered Special Edition.....He has pulled all theater copies 70 and 35 mm film versions and completely stopped all production and sales of the original versions.......he also has said he hopes the old VHS versions that had been realesed years ago would deteriorate over time so no one would ever see the original version again, refering to them as rough drafts. At one point getting aggetated with a fan that asked him why he would not realse the originals again and Lucas replying "Grow Up Their my movies"
I bought the Phantom Menece first in VHS and then in DVD format but soon as they came out but never bothered to get the rest of the dvd collection.
So at this age and seeing it with my kid over and over for many years since he was a boy as well ?...I lost track.
But I never thought about how many different ways and formats I'v seen it in. or how manny formats I have owned.
I found this web site If you would like to read a very indepth history of the different film versions and formats of Star Wars check this out.
Save Star Wars .Com
It was a great Birthday!
