I tried to find more on it ... but I don't have the super powers of obscure searching that Red Eye does... maybe he could find time to track down more info someday...?

Re: Cylon Logo?
Informative thread. I used to think that the pentagon emblem was a unit/formation insignia of some sort, but evidently it's the emblem of the entire Cylon Empire.

I even transferred it to DVD a few years ago. But the real issue is that I don't currently have the ability to screen-capture at the moment...

When the models were refurbished the person doing the work gave them all a nice bath in silicone.

Re: Cylon Logo?
Hi, all. I never knew (beyond the basestar reference mentioned here) what significance the pentagon had in the TOS universe. Probably an unspoken reference to an ancient governing council of five elders from the original reptilian Cylon race. This is only a guess, but it's as good as any other, I reckon.
Although its significance is highly detailed in the NuBSG universe. So much so that I wrote up an article on this very concept for Galactica.tv back in the heyday of NuBSG's run. I found the constant use of esoteric symbolism in the show to be quite intriguing and decided to put my spin on it, comparing it to its "Earthly" connections. Here's the original article, for those interested:

Re: Cylon Logo?
In the nuBSG... have you figured in the shows of "Caprica" too for the Pentagon logo? My take-away from it all was that the logo seems to be the Graystone Industries logo, and the Cylons (that his company made) must rip it off/it winds up on their ships, and later on the Eye of Jupiter temple, etc.
Seems to be another nice "back-at-ya" akin to TOS Cylons and the Imperious Leader ripping off the original Lizard Cylons by having a skin to copy them. A nod and insult at once it seems to me.
Wheee this is fun to ponder! And your articles are awesome - thank you for sharing the link.

Re: Cylon Logo?
Thanks very much!
That article was actually written before Caprica existed, but yes, it stands to reason that the logo used by the Cylons during the time of NuBSG was derived from the Graystone Industries' logo of the twin pentagons. That was a brilliant nod by the CG artists and writers to include that, knowing the history of "The Five" and the Kobollian Cylons that had come millennia before. It opens up strong speculation that there was a "genetic memory" in play when Graystone chose that to be his corporate logo, symbolizing the repetition of history in Colonial society - re-enforcing the show's mantra, "This has all happened before; this will all happen again".
Again, with TOS mythology, there have been unfortunately no canonical explanations for the use of that symbol, while the symbolism of the Colonials was more carefully planned out to imply the "Ancient Alien/Astronaut" influences that Larson built into his universe. Understanding the mystical nature of the pentagon shape, it would stand to reason that there was an attempt made to infer that with the Cylons as well, possibly influenced by Iblis himself. It would have been easy to make that leap of logic if Iblis wore some kind of five-pointed symbol somewhere on his robes, but that would likely have provided too early a give-away as to his true nature and history with the Cylons, should TOS have lasted beyond one season.

Re: Cylon Logo?
Yes, nuBSG has very cool "ins" to Classic BSG and really does flesh out such stuff as the logo - I think your ideas are spot on! You probably know, even the screws on the U-87 (Caprica) and Razor "Classic" Cylons had pentagon "screws" on them. TINY details that pay homage to the classis series. Very nice.
And I totally agree about classic BSG... the logo just might be as simple as "that's what we used" ... with no other reason.
Probably something totally different than the Colonial circle logo:
in color and shape so it would be CLEAR as to if ships/characters are good or bad.
BUT, again, you are soooo right - you can infer so much coolness into the "whys" and "maybes" ... like this web page:
http://sacredcirclecosmos.com/Sacred%20 ... agon1.html
The two pictures of the pentagon where the top forms an ancient Egypt pyramid shape - and the man figure that can have a pentagon (Cylon) and circle (Colonial) form around him.

Those two images really do give some sparks to creative ideas on how the original Reptile Cylons and Man maybe both came from Kobal... or once had some sort of union/peace... who knows!
Imagination is our only limit.... cool.
