Galactica 1st ever kit bash....
[img]Hi everyone... first thanks to everyone who welcomed me in the new members section. Well I've never done any kitbashing before, I've only ever built straight from the box so when I obtained an old Monogram BSG kit I thought I'd give it a go. The model had been painted with enamal paint and damaged with both landing bays being snapped off. Getting the paint off has been a real challenge. I ain't no proffesional or experience builder folks and havelacked confidence in the past to 'have ago' at altering a kit or anything, but after a bit of a rough time recently especially with my health i thought I'd give it ago. I've only used things at hand bit's & bobs' for the extra detailing etc (not much cash at moment to buy aftermarket kits) and I've added some f/o lighting, again first time ever I've lite a model. Made a box for the base and an old torch for the support while hiding the cables in two springs, thought they could resemble fuel lines. Gonna try and post some pics now.. if i do it right please take a look and tell me what you think.. thanks

For someone who just completed his very first kitbash project, you've done a heck of a job! Outstanding work!
Any plans for adding some additional decals (red markings on the main hull, lading bays, etc.)?

Thanks.... and yes I did try and add additional decals...I tried painting them on and after several attempts gave up as a bad job. I don't know whether it's just me or the size of the model but for some reason the red markings sort of made the model look cheap. Any thoughts about this... are they vital for it appearance? any advice?

Great job with the lighting!
I do think the markings are important since they'll add a nice touch of additional detail.
Perhaps the color is the difference what makes them look cheap.
On the original miniature, they were dark red instead of the simple red used on the Monogram model.

Thanks... I'll give it another try.. I've got a bottle of 'Hull Red' so might try that one before I venture to the shops again... cheers for the input

I've treid to put the red marking/decals on with paint but it's not worked so good. I'm going to try and get some original transfers or after market ones if I can.
