Yes that is a box of screen used Cubit's, but I don't own them. I saw them when I was picking up a warehouse that was closing up. I bought what was left of the props, and costumes out. The Cubits were $75 a pair....to much for me at that rate.

Gang,

I'm bidding on a set on ebay right now, that look correct (background embossing) and I'll see what I get them for. Looks like Gordon found them after I did . . . but I'm still winning. IF I get them I think I'll try and spice up the cubit world and cast them up . . . most of whats out there sems pretty muddy, a bit overpriced for painted resin. I think I'd see about offering them here first exclusively with no paint, just the raw resin to keep costs down so everyone could ge a real pyramid pot of their own.
Plan is to cast them in resin to recoup rubber and some of the "master", and then see if the tool and die shop I'm friendly with can work off them and get a set of dies ran . . .

IF I can afford the setup and dies, I'd LOVE to bring stamped cubits to the community!

Any idea how much it is to have a die set made? I know a die set for plastic injection molding runs about 10 K for a tiny item.

I don't know, the cost would probably depend on a few factors.
I need to talk to my contact more, but I'm guessing that the dies this sized would run 2-300 each side, so between 6-900 for a set of dies (you'd need the "g" front side, the "L" front side and a generic back, which could be used for both). BUT, the dies would last a long, long time as they're tool steel and would probably be stamping brass or a brassy looking alloy, IE they would be up against a material that is MUCH softer than the metal they would normally face and would probably last WAY longer than the demand would be around for them.

My wild @$$ guess, the per cubit "cost" without any markup would be in the $5-6 range, and since I'd have to throw down for a best guess minimum run of at least 200 total pieces PLUS the cost of 3 the dies before even making this happen, I'd need to make 2100 JUST to cover the dies and the run and BREAK EVEN. So, a total, unsupported WAG would be around $22 +shipping for a pair of METAL cubits.

I dunno, would the market be willing to pay around this for REAL METAL cubits?

I know I'd gladly pay that for a set, but am I just a freak?

Not a bad break down on the cost.
I am not sure if you noticed the box, it said 1000 as the count. That box only had about 100 in it, and it was heavy as heck. That box was one of at least two that were made. It was only one letter, so they made an other letter also G & L. A 3rd letter was made, but they were very rare, and were in that box at one point, but a guy in Germany bought the 10 or so that were found for $200 each. If memory serves me, it was the letter A. Yeah, I heard about the "A" versions, and if I could get this running maybe I could swing buying one with profits . . . and promptly do the same and get some replicas of the "rare" cubit out in the hands of people!

Now THAT would REALLY sell to the freaks!

In regards to cubits, I just had a brainstorm!

Wouldn't it be fun to bring a bagfull of them and play Pyramid on the cruise?!! I can just picture a bunch of us sitting in the lounge playing cards and drinking! LOL!!

So, is there anyone making "cheap" cubits out of plastic or resin??

I bet the actors would get a kick out of seeing the fans playing "their" game too!
