The First COMPLETE Cylon costume!!!!!

Post by chrisd » Mon Oct 29, 2007 11:01 pm

Fellas, Fellas, FELLAS!!!! Here it is...the COMPLETE Cylon costume, all original parts, from the 32 Bulb scanner to the battery belt and YES THE UNDERSUIT, check out my video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfiwpZZriI0

Any questions, comments, please ask

I am glad I can put this project to rest, it has been a long 1 year and 9 months from start of this conception until completion (January, 2006 -Friday, October 26, 2007) So much work and detail has gone into this 4th and FINAL generation Cylon I've owned. The ONLY thing not BSG about it is the fact that it wasn't screen used so will NEVER be the price of one that was, but to me it was well worth the hell I went through to finally own a Cylon!!!

That looks fantastic, a piece of art. A true piece of art, very well done. Hats off to you my friend. Congrats on your time well spent on completing your task of 1:1 original. That is clearly one of the best Cylons out there. Maybe better than some of the screen used Cylons, at least shinny.

Chris, at the risk of repeating what others have said your outfit is FANTASTIC!!!

So I need to ask: Where did you get your undersuit made? It looks far superior to the ones Mary made!

Undersuit

Post by chrisd » Mon Nov 05, 2007 8:01 pm

Well, I found a seamstress in Connecticut. I told her I needed a custom job done and she asked if I had a pattern, but I didn't, and she basicly did it BLIND!!!! She explained I would have to keep coming in and I would every now and then, when she had the time, pay her a visit to keep fitting it the right way, and I told her it is NO problem, I'll do whatever it takes. So on my first day there (February 2006) I had this really strange feeling this was not going to come overnight........ I've taken numerous photos, including freezing frames of the series and studying them, visiting various websites, having friends send me photos (front, back, top, bottom, & INSIDE OUT)!! And between her and I, it was just a
hit or miss. She started with the bottom leotard and I would go in for numerous fittings and she would little by little re-sew the pants and waist to make them more snug every time. Then next came the patches which were like fitting pieces to a puzzle, and eventually came the ribbing. Looking back I'm so glad she asked me "are you sure this is how you want it before I sew them on?" I would pause for a minute and fix the patches to where I think they should be and BINGO!!!! When she would show me prior completions my eyes litterally popped out their sockets and my jaw dropped, she had exceeded my expectations!! Of course I did alot of work as well, we sort of, worked together. I would use swatches (cut-outs) of the original size patches with double sided tape to stick them into place so she knew where to start building from and I would piece the clear and colored vinyl together, and cut the welt cord (ribbing) into the right size pieces. It was just her and her mother, and her mother could not handle the bigger jobs so she took on alot of work along with other people who were giving her a hard time, but I was very patient because I did NOT want her to quit on me and I am really surprised she didn't. Of course, occasionally I would tip her for such tremendous work to somewhat keep her motivated and to let her know know that I was serious. I stressed her out and put her threw hell and feel very bad for doing so and THERE WILL BE NO MORE UNDERSUITS FROM HER AGAIN, but I give millions of thanks to her because I would not have made this possible without her

Did you still have the photos of the undersuit?

If you do, it would be nice if you can send them to me...

Did she at least make a pattern so you could take it somewhere else to have more made? I would think the next suit would be a bit easier for your seamstress (even with the stress, I'm sure she got paid well for the job). Truly a work of art! Congratulations.
