I talked with the guy in charge up at the museum and he said the thumb nail photo they posted was taken before they finished the detailing out of the Cylon, and it is standing guard in full costume.

Here is the gold Cylon Vulpa at the 15 year convention. Note the chest piece color. Roger Sides didn't have an original gold Cylon chest piece, so he spray painted a chromed chest piece with gold paint. I assume the original was destroyed when Vulpa was shot. Only a guess.
