Cylon Logo?

Post by Cylon-Knight » Sun Jun 14, 2009 11:21 pm

Does anyone know any background info on the Cylon logo? The green pentagon in a pentagon found on Rider wings, etc.

Is there and reason behind the logo, significance, symbolism etc.? I am GUESSING that it was just something 'neat' they dreamed up and pawn off as it was the logo of the original lizard Cylons (hence the green??).

I haven't heard of any back ground stories or information on the logo at all, but it was shown in the Caprica DVD at the building as a logo on top of the roof where the Cylon's were made.

Yes, even the "bolts" holding the U-87 Cylon in Caprica together are the "logo" shape. Very cool detail. Perhaps the new BSG the logo is a company logo?

But as for classic BSG... ?
I think it was just taken from the lizard Cylons - the robots took their name, why not the logo!

What a cosmic PUZZLE! :)

A theme was set in the early design days of Galactica. Take note the Raider window grill (cockpit area) is the same look as the grilled look on the chest, and mouth grill. So I think just a random design was placed on the Raider left and or right wing. I don't recall seeing that logo on anything else the Cylons owned, or controlled. The theft rate as a Cylon must material must have been low so tagging or ID marking wasn't really needed :D

Interestingly, the Cylon logo was intended to be placed on the bicep armor in early concept sketches like this one here done by Andrew Probert, the father/creator of the Cylon design...

On another of Probert's sketches, the logo was attached to the chestplate:

I don't know why, but I really like the idea of an Cylon logo on the Centurion armor.

Good eye, Red Eye ;)

I see the concepts had three pentagons too - not the two that made it to the Raider wings. Very cool how designs change into production items.

I wonder *evil grin* if any member of ByYourCommand.net will ever make a "concept" Cylon suit - a physical one to wear. That would be VERY neat to see.

I guess I recall seeing that concept art in the back of my head, because I was wondering why the arm or shoulder bell didn't have the logo just since this posting. I guess it just wasn't to be, even the crest that was made for the Cylon in the 3 hour movie that was filmed, but never used on screen.

That would be a great idea, indeed... is there anybody who plans to do a concept Cylon???

By the way: The armored boots were another nice idea, I think...

On another forum someone mentioned that maybe the logo comes from the classic Basestar itself. Consider the below image:

after their failure with Robocop OCP, went on to developed the cylons. removing all traces of humans from the cyborg construction process. and after many years had a corporate makeover.

the two logos aren't a million miles apart. total rubbish, but theirs a thought..... maybe we could see Robocop and cylons in a future film together maybe?

Now I want to get my RoboCop suit and stand it next to my Cylon, and then let them fight it out :-)

You're right. That could be a reasonable explanation. Never thought about it that way...

Haha... CVR (Cylon Vs. Robocop - Like AVP, Aliens Vs. Predator). That would ROCK!
