:cylon: Thanks. That tells me I have a challenge in hiding the connection between the upper and lower halves then. Any suggestions anyone? :cylon:

:cylon: Testing to see if this photo comes up. I want to put my models to work...ha ha. The Base Star is mine, the raiders are from all over the internet. Please don't sue me, this was just for fun. :cylon:

:cylon: The beauty of the Base Star model is there is more there than I first imagined. Anyone who has the RAZOR DVD, or otherwise saw the minisode/webisode where young Adama is fighing in the first cylon war may have seen the homage to the classic base star. I thought the lighting on that base star was fantastic. (Probably all CGI, but it looked great, anyway).
I am still fitting parts on the base star together. DOY! I answered my own question about how the two saucers are joined for a realistic look. (Oh yeah, there are parts to cover the connection.
The raider sits proudly on my bench and yes, I had to buy the classic Colonial Viper. Guess I build that shelf I need to build.
I would like to get you guys' opinions about this color scheme. For me, building the classic raider informed by the color scheme of the RAZOR version is really a nice way to go. Here is a photo-shopped mock up. I look forward to hearing from you about it. :cylon:

I agree that in Razor they did an awesome job on the CG. Your photo looks great also, and as for the Raiser work in progress, and looks good except maybe want to fix the direction on the decals I think. Good work, and thanks for sharing, and can't wait to see more.

Yeah, GoldCylon is right, the wing markings are heading the wrong way... check out this thread for some info:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=509

That shows screen, toy, and model markings for Raiders... they are all a bit "here-and-there" in their color/location but the wide part of the marking is always toward the back.

I love the colors! Great work so far. And more photos please, they show up just fine :)

:cylon: Hey Guys! Thanks for the information. Yes, I realized the mock up has the black stripes going the wrong way (Man, o Man!). Believe me, it was done on the fly, just to really focus on the overall look.
I couldn't sleep much last night, as Thursday is my Friday, so I did a lot of looking at the base star. The design is really a beautiful one. It is amazing all of that was there for the show back when we were kids, ha ha. :cylon:

So are you building a model kit, or a scratch build for the Baseship, and so today was your Saturday? Get much work done today?

I thought I had mentioned it earlier, but yes; I only have the time, resources and strength to do the kit.

And so today was your Saturday? Get much work done today?

Yes and no. I get Friday and Saturday off, but I am usually busy on Friday's. Yes. I have a total of 5 (five) projects going; the base star, cylon raider, R2D2 (Original kit), the new polar lights (small) USS ENTERPRISE, and, close to my heart, BESSIE, the road paver from Pixar's CARS. And yes, I got a lot of work done. Especially the base star. Mostly prepatory work that is unworthy of pics, LOL.

I have original R2D2 and C-3PO kits, they are neat!
What scale and version (1701, 1701-A, etc.) is your Enterprise?

Can't wait to see more on the Basestar! :)

I must have missed the Baseship original comment, and R2 is a project, but way cool once completed to have one of those little guys running around at a Con.
Can you give a few details about the build of the ship?

Not to worry. No big deal. It must be a communication glitch in our cylon software. Either that, or I just assumed everyone would know by osmosis. LOL....

What scale and version (1701, 1701-A, etc.) is your Enterprise?

Polar Lights came out with a 1/1000th scale "Refit" Enterprise. I hear the 1/350th is a modeler's dream, but I did not hear about the larger one until I bought the smaller one...go figure! The original R2D2 had obvious innacuracies, especially with the arms and feet. So, instead of slamming the kit together, as I did when I was a child, I am working to see how much of the incorrectness can be fixed.

Can you give a few details about the build of the ship?

Yes. At this point, I am merely "staring" at the kit. I am keeping and will publish the significant steps for lighting and detailing. I can tell you at this point the already provided detail on the base star is absolutely stunning! There is not a lot I know or plan to do for modifications. At this point, I feel most modifications on my kit will be for the lighting and painting, etc.
It is obvious the good folks of this forum are very passionate about resources and have collected a lot of info on modelling; very informative, thank you. Still, there does not seem to be just a massive amount of resource information regarding the base star.
That being said, from what I see (as far as the base star is concerned) it seems there is not a significant amount of change that needs to be done to the existing physical detail of the kit (thoughts anyone?). Resources generally seem agree that the painting of the kit can be simply a straight forward Gray. What I have seen in both old and reimagined versions, the base star is fairly plain and simple in its paint scheme.
As for lighting: Again...simple.
But, great opportunities in making the kit come alive can happen here. Since the piece on the very top has five holes in it, there is a lighting effect begging to happen (Whether or not is was in the show). I see an opportunity to have lighting coming from underneath that top piece. Also, the 10 landing ports sections need lighting as well (as seen in RAZOR's minisodes). I think I will try lighting from the bottom piece also.

Anyway, I am taking pics and when I have something substancial, I will post it. By Y'alls Command!!!!!

Here is what I am thinking about the top. Lighting hits the top structures from the side for that "Vegas hotel" lighting look.

A few drawing have shown lights in the ship, or something that looks like lighting, but if you think about just about all ships have some type of lighting so in short that can bee seen. I guess that was over looked in the Baseship to give that dark sinister feeling. The builder of this ship did a great job of placement on the lights they seem to be in a great location from what I recall. I'll head to the store in a bit, and get a photo up today for a day photo and then maybe in a darker closet take also.
