Well, at least I have seen it for the first time while looking at this current eBay-auction for this vintage 1979 Mattel concept catalog:

The helmet itself looks very accurate and it's my guess they've used the original molds of a screen-used helmet for making it. It would be interesting to know if there were plans of installing a electronic eye scanner instead of just gluing that odd looking red dot on the visor.

As you can see, they did had some cool concept ideas at Mattel back in those days, but sadly, most of them were cancelled due to too high production costs (like the awesome electronic Galactica Command Ship)...
