sean,
the chips themselves run about $8 US. The starter kit runs about $100 US. you could probably make the interface board yourself for much cheaper. the schematics and the windows programmer can be downloaded free on the site. Perhaps when I get most of my other projects done, I will try this out.

Hello everyone,
Can someone send me some pics showing good views of the eye slot area? also if anyone has a screen used helmet pics of how the original eye scanner worked would be vary nice.

Sean, for your wish list, I am told that the micro-controller would be the best choice. also I am told that if you use the parallax propeller chip, and only use 30 LEDs, you could get a control for the different features
and have the sound run at the same time. The parts list is small and cost will be under $75, the most time will be programing the chip.

I have added this to my to do list, I know I will not have this done by end of challenge.

thanks.

I think the photo gallery has what your looking for. If not ask Cylon-Knight about the photos. He has the photos in his back pocket.

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking about the scanner idea. I am working on a concept schematic now, would anyone like to build a prototype to test it? One problem I need to work out, the circuit I have designed uses 30 or 36 LEDs, I am have much difficulty getting 32. Would 30 LEDs be good enough to work with a helm?

So far it uses just 3 chips and a small handful of other components.I will update this post with the schematic when its done.

EDIT... Schematic added.

If it has to be one or the other, and 32 is just not going to work... I'd pic 30.

Sean, If you are referencing the post with the schematic, Its for a different eye scanner.
That particular one uses the CD4017 decade counter as the main chip.

As to the micro-controller eye scanner, I am still working on it. To answer the above question, you would have to write the program.

How long will you be at the stage to build this? So far you are the only serious entry on the contest so looks like you will be the winner, but the date to end the contest is closing quickly Do you have enough time to finish up the project to win? Looks great so far. Also any plans to offer this up as a kit? Could be a nice extra to the Cylon members store.

@ groupleaderzeta - Does your design allow for the "speed" of the scan to be adjusted?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the pics, Red Eye.

GoldCylon, My current project budget is stretched thin, (tooo many going), I need to sell a couple parts to raise funds. I have a fiberglass replica of the spartan warrior helmet from the movie 300 (no crest, and repainted to better match movie). http://lordshijo.blogspot.com/2010/03/3 ... -done.html I also have a steel viking helmet with no liner (used in reenactments). I can turn out a prototype unit in a couple days if I had the parts. I haven't thought about selling as a kit. Do you have a pic of the C.O.R.A. helmet kit, I am not sure what it looks like.

Cylon-Knight, In the schematic, on the clock diagram there is a trimmer, this will vary the speed a bit from about 25 to 15 pulses per min (my calculations may be off).

Awesome news on the build. Can't wait to see what is up as it comes along. Also in the Cylon Members Stores under viewtopic.php?f=56&t=894 you can see the Cylon kit prices from C.O.R.A., and the cost. Others have kits for sale also, but you requested C.O.R.A by name.
