The 1978 Cylon Centurion has a custom built electronic eye.

Screen accurate details:
  • 32 light bulbs
  • Electronics drive 32 bulbs in a repeating left to right sweeping
  • Powered by the G&M Battery belt
Low cost alternatives:
  • The modern day replacement for the classic bulb scanner is a 28 to 32 LEDs eye. Typically powered by 9 volt battery in the helmet or under suit. Several ByYourCommand.net members produce varying levels of eye for various budgets, all well built by members in good standing with the Cylon Empire. Some include sound options as well. Members: See the Cylon Store for details.
  • MP3 players with mini speakers are typically installed in Centurion builds to add the eye warble sound effect to a finished costume for a polished and professional level of Cylon-ness. The players can be installed in the helmet, chest armor, back pack, etc. It is the builder's decision as to what works best for their build and budget.
Notes:
  • No sound effects in original 1978 Cylon Centurions, that was added in post production to the show's soundtrack

What was the original voltage that the eye ran off of? I'm currently using a 6v. battery to run my 'screen-used' helmet and it works, but is kinda dim.

I think I have two 12volt power adapters (laptop) units running my scanner.

The belt that originaly powered the eye was a cam bat belt and I think it had several diff voltages to pick from depending on if you were using a cam or a spot light or???

I may be wrong ......Dale would know

110 v... so if I 'plug' my scanner into the wall it wouldn't burn up? Hmm... Maybe I'll be cautious and try 12v next...

I dunno. All I have is that photo. *sorries*
Whoever has a real 1978 scanner will have to let us know.... ;)
Take it to an electrician - have them pick it apart for posterity.

No the belt doesn't power out 120 AC volts. That is a built in charger. There is a switch to select 12 volt or 6 volt.
