Buildding my centurion
OK I have everything ordered for my suit, but one thing eludes me. the undersuit. Does anyone know of a seemstress that has made screen accurate suits in the past, that would be willing to make another one. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Oh the suit one of the worst things about the Cylon. No one wants to make them because how hard they are to replicate.

The material isn't real hard to find. It does take a little leg work, but you can generally find in a few hours. Sorry I don't have a source I can point to since they fabric companies that have carried it in the past no longer carry it or have closed up there doors. You need to look for a plum heavy Lycra material. Using a non heavy material is harder to work with sewing it together, and just doesn't display well in most cases, but I have seen a couple that did work out.

And typically Lycra is for swim suits and dance outfits... not too many "grayish purple" of them. They are all bright yellows and pinks, greens, etc. So "mega" fabric stores are hard to find it at as well.

Re: Buildding my centurion
thanks guys. 2 more questions. Is the original suite 1 piece or 3 pieces. the pics from CORA (Jim) look like a one piece jumpsuit style with ribbing on it. also what material is used for the original ribbing is it black or gray, and is it lycra as well or vinyl?

I hear everyone talking about the plum colored undersuits.. but when I look at youtube everyone is wearing black undersuits?
And you have to admit, black does look cooler.. The cylons in the series were mostly shot in dark scenes..
I'm thinking of just going for black.
I know its not screen accurate, but on screen it looks black.. so what's screen accurate?
What they used? or what you see?
I would like to get some opinions?

Well most of what you see that you think is black isn't the plum material, but mostly the vinyl patch work. That is gunmetal type of color. It isn't easy to see the plum above the waste in most photos of the Cylon's, and yes poor lighting never helps.

Thats why I'm planning on a custom dye job of a darker plum.Wupsje wrote:I hear everyone talking about the plum colored undersuits.. but when I look at youtube everyone is wearing black undersuits?

I agree with everyone here. I guess you have to think about where and when you will be using the costume. If it is a display in a home then most likely you will have soft light on it while if you go to conventions it is VERY bright there plus people usually use flash. In the costuming case I would go with a dark grey/black. Reason being is exactly what Wupsje said about the way people remember it looking in the show.
I spoke with the head figurine colorist at Sideshow about just this subject. Customers were unhappy with the color choice they used. Sideshow used the actual colors used and people wanted screen accurate (i.e. what they visually saw on screen). So I think they offered both on some pieces.
Anyways - I used a fabric that was too purplish and it really doesn't look too great. My recommendation -go more on the grey side with a little brownish/purple in it. Usually people go the other way and it just shows up too much in the lighting condition which we photograph them in.

Yeah, when filmed and after post production - all that... the plumb-ish gray color translated into a basic gray. Seemed the extra red was needed to keep it looking gray on screen.

Check out this amazing score. Just picked these up. These babies are the correct gloves no mod needed other than leather paint.
Bummer that i just finished my gloves but these babies i will happily redo. notice the pointed ends on the top and no knuckle.

These gloves are dead-on to the originals! Congrats for finding/getting them!
But aside from painting, the cuffs have to be cutted down.
Adding silver/gunmetal vinyl to the cuffbands is also an additional option.
