Cylon534 Helmet Build (The Sequel!)

Post by Cylon534 » Sat Oct 06, 2012 11:59 pm

FINALLY! My Cylon Helmet is finished and displayed proudly!

However, I got some questions on the actual paint color that was used. I've seen the swatch here http://www.cylon-knight.com/art.htm but the mouth grill color and gloss/flat colors are not mentioned.

Eye: Flat Black?
Mouth Grill: Gloss Black or Gloss Gunmetal? (I am using a Gloss Dark Gray and I think it's fine.)
Panels: Gloss Gunmetal or Flat?

When I received it...

When I painted it Black...

When I screwed it up and had to strip it all back down...

When I got it back from the chromer...

The finished product with eBay (Jupiter Electronics) eye scanner installed!

COMING SOON: Cylon Commander Helmet.

Looks impressive! Good work. :salute:

Can't wait to see Goldie as well...

Just switch over to the helmet article on his site and you'll find out all about the colors and everything else: http://www.cylon-knight.com/helmet.htm

Like a lot, I even like the display stand, it sets off the lid really well. :cylon:

Question, is it wearable? how do you see out of it?

Looks great! I'll update my color chart for the flat etc. I think the eye insert is a flat black, the side panels and mouth grill are probably a satin (I'd guess). They don't seem flat, but not really gloss either. From what I can tell of 1978 pics and watching the show, etc.

LOOOVE Your build. 190% AWESOME ;)

Without the electronics I can put it on but it rips your ears off so it's a prop only. I didn't want to permantly attach the scanner so I am using velcro as a strap to hold it in place. The battery box is velcroed in as well so I can remove all the electronics very easily.

Thanks for the info! I found some "Gunmetal Metallic" today at AutoZone and painted up my side panels!

In addition to the side panels, I went ahead and re-painted the mouth grill from that Dark Gray to Gunmetal so it is now as it should be.

It could be mistaken for an original now. Very cool!

That would be awesome! FYI, any image I post can be used for the gallery.

By Your Command! This is what I used but be careful when you make your purchase, there was at least one other can there that was labled "Gunmetal Met" but it had some Silver specs in it (that was shown on the cap) and it had a different replacement number.
