Original Cylons - and I mean Original

Post by 137th Gebirg » Wed May 19, 2010 8:06 pm

Hey, all - in response to a special request, I had the recent opportunity to do up a quick schematics treatment for the original TOS lizard Cylons based on the intro footage from the telemovie "Experiment In Terra" (seen here). These diagrams are to be used to build a fully modeled CG rendering. Enjoy!

heehee ... Like I said at GBBS.com... I 'm not so hot on the four fingers. Centurions had 5. Sure it was due to the fact that humans played them in the show, but none the less, it is canon they have 5 figers. I don't see why the Lizard Cylons would add a finger to thier creation... everything in their world proably centered on their body type, etc. Humans don't make robots with 6 fingers... yeah 2 or 3 that may be a "claw" of sorts. But any "advanced" robot has five fingers like humans.... *sorry* just being a punk I guess. ;)

BUT the art is very very well done and it is going to make a 3D CG Lizard Cylon - ROCK!

As always - Thanks for sharing your work! SO NICE

Thanks much! Yeah, I lamented over the 4-vs-5 finger thing, but the feet in that video do seem to show three forward toes (implying a 4th reverse toe and 4 matching fingers). I erred on the side of continuity vs. logic in this particular case.

Wow! Great and very creative work you've done there...

But I think the concept of the four fingers would be accurate because as you might remember, the Cylons first started copying humanoid bodies after their discovery (according to Apollo in "Saga of a Star World"):

It's most likely that the Cylons' earlier mechanical creations looked closer to their repitilian counterparts...

I've also scanned a comic story called "Dark Genesis" some time ago which was part of the "Battlestar Galactica" comic books published by Realm Press, which contains the best and only background informations about the origin of the Cylons to my knowledge (except the additional footage from the "Experiment in Terra" telemovie, of course).

I'll see if I can dig this up for you...

This again is just an other great piece to add to that growing stack of art we have been blessed to see come to life. Yes only a digital image, but it gives us die hard fans a chance to see and view ship, props, and other unnamed drawing you have presented. You, and your work are a gift to the BSG world. Now what is this CG rendering you mentioned? An other parties project, or is this something you have up your sleeve.

Heh...I haven't done 3D modeling in a long time and my skills are horribly outdated and obsolete. This work was a special request from someone over at Colonial Fleets who is more talented in that arena, to be used as a reference for just such a project. Once I hear/see more on that end, I'll certainly provide some links. I, too, am looking forward to what comes out of this.

Thanks much all!

Very interesting. I haven't seen that before, or it has been so long since I have I don't recall seeing it before. Thanks :cylongold:
