Interest thread -metal helmets - bronze/gold or aluminum

Post by Hand-Schaub » Fri May 14, 2010 12:25 pm

Okay - this is merely an interest thread to see if there are any true die hard fans wanting to invest in this project. In the past I have been known for casting bronze Webley flair gun replicas, golden fertility idols from Indy Jones and aluminum Boba/Jango Fett helmets. I have since stopped doing these items but that doesn't mean I can't do them again. What I am getting at here is that I am capable of making metal Cylon helmets!

The reason why I am just gauging interest is because it is a project that requires a great deal of work and logistics and yes...money to complete. I know most people just want to know price so if $500-$600 doesn't scare you then read on.

:cylon: Aluminum can be polished to a certain degree for a silver Cylon and weighs around 5 lbs for a helmet. It would not have a shine of metal plating but it still can be buffed up pretty nice. It would be cast in a single piece. If I did a few of these then I could also cast several grills only. :cylon:

:cylongold: The Bronze/gold helmets can be high buffed to a gleaming shine. Even though it is truly bronze it looks like gold (which explains why we as a group go back and forth about gold and bronze plated Cylons). This is the helmet I am more excited about because I know how gleaming bronze can get (no plating necessary here!) Bronze is MUCH heavier than aluminum though. :cylongold:

Both these helmets would be recommended for display only. and would only be the helmet itself (no inside electronics unless I can work something out with friend who is electronics savvy.

A go on this project would probably throw into the mix items such as cast metal rifle details, grills and scanner housings and anything else that others will let me mold and cast (I don't want to insinuate that I re-cast which is why I like to work WITH owners of found item parts).

Please respond here with questions or e-mail me directly at : schaub-art@sbcglobal.net

Thanks,
Brian

really? 4 days of this posting on the premier Cylon boards and 1 interested?

Well - an update nontheless... Over at the RPF there seems to be some interest. I will most likely be mixing in some other metal items in the bronze/aluminum order so at this point it looks like this project may be moving forward.

Anybody else interested?

Sorry, I'd love one, sure... but gotta FOCUS  on the one Cylon I'm trying to make now! :)

If you wind up with an extra that you don't want....

I didn't even see this thread up at the top. For some reason I always ignore them and look at the other threads.

Anyway, I think it sounds cool. I'd be even more interested if the silver one was fully chromed. I guess that is not possible with aluminum though. I think the price range is reasonable considering that a fully finished Kropserkel helmet is roughly the same price. Are there some sample pictures of what the aluminum finish looks like?

I'm actually more interested in the backpack on your page. I'm planning on ordering one of those once my funds recover from DragonCon. Is there a way to get that fully finished and chromed?

Thanks

I will in the near future have fully FINISHED armor pieces. No assembly or hunting down parts.

The metal helmets can be chromed but honestly my job right now is very busy so I don't have the time to give this the attention it deserves.

Thanks for the interest and stay tuned - I will be in full Cylon production glory in the coming months.

@Hand-Schaub

Are the metal helmets to be sold soon? If so, cool beans. If not I will be moving the topic out of the Cylon Store to the builders forum.

Please let me know. Thanks!!!
